9. | Understanding Molecular Cooking | Students will learn the concepts of molecular cooking. Some techniques such as spherification, emulsification and foaming will be discussed. The workshop also leads students to do the spherification experiment.
| Chemistry | Junior / Senior Secondary | 1.5 hour |
10. | Making Disinfectant Hand Gel | Students will learn about prokaryotic cells and know-how bacteria as well as viruses can be eliminated by alcohol. They will also make their disinfectant hand gel using alcohol as the major ingredient. | Biology | Junior / Senior Secondary | 1.5 hour |
11. | Is It Really “Clean” | Students will learn about basic lab techniques of microbiology such as bacteria sampling, serial dilution, spread plate method, incubation and cell counting | Biology
| Junior / Senior Secondary | 1.5 hour
|
12. | Building a Solar Car | Students will learn basic knowledge of solar radiation and solar energy. Students will then use solar panels to make solar cars. Students may also add on different components such as battery charge controller and battery and lamp to compare the performance of the solar cars. | Physics | Junior / Senior Secondary | 3 hours |
13. | Algae Cultivation
| Students will learn basic knowledge of microalgae. Algal sub-culturing methods and techniques will also be introduced. Students will have hands-on experience to collect, isolate and cultivate microalgae in the workshop. | Biology
| Senior Secondary | 4 hours |
14. | Making a Rubik’s Cube | Students are going to build their customised Rubik’s cube by using the 3D-printed parts. 3D drawing and printing techniques will be shared. Students will also learn how to resolve a Rubik’s cube and make their own decorations. | Arts & Maths | Senior Secondary | 3 hours |
15. | Water Quality Test Part 1 (Field Trip) | A field trip will be arranged to collect water samples at designated locations, and to capture data instantly by using various equipment. | Biology | Senior Secondary | 3 hours |
16. | Water Quality Test Part 2 (Laboratory Works) | Students will do further experiments at laboratories, such as bacterial cell culturing, chemical tests on the concentration of nitrate and phosphate in the water sample, and microscopic observation of bacteria. | Biology | Senior Secondary | 4 hours |
17. | DNA Extraction & Gel Electrophoresis | Students will learn how to extract DNA of the constituting meat from the processed meat samples by using DNA extraction kit. Also, after DNA extraction, students will try to perform gel electrophoresis to check whether they succeed to extract the DNA. | Biology | Senior Secondary | 4 hours |
18. | Introduction on Biosafety | This workshop will introduce the basic concept of biological safety and address the importance of biosafety and biosecurity issues. Risk group classification and risk assessment will also be elaborated in the workshop.
| IS | Junior / Senior Secondary | 1 hour |
19. | Beauty and the Skin
| The ingredients normally found in cosmetic products and the scientific principles behind their functions will be introduced in this workshop. Moreover, students will have a chance to make their own cosmetic products. | Biology & Chemistry | Junior / Senior Secondary | 2 hours |
20. | Micro:bit Kart Live | Students will use Micro:bit to make and control their own kart. The kart can be fully controlled by using Micro:bit Apps or another Micro:bit. Kart race or competition can be organized if needed. | Physics & ICT | Junior / Senior Secondary | 3 hours |
21. | Micro:bit Sensors for Aquaponics System | In this workshop, students will use Micro:bit to make different sensors to check the conditions and parameters such as temperature, light intensity, water level and water turbidity of an aquaponics system. The sensors can be connected by using a free and handy IoT system so that students can check the parameters online. | Biology & ICT | Senior Secondary | 3 hours |
22. | Telescopes for the Moon | Students will learn about the basic concept of lenses and types of telescopes. They will be instructed to make a telescope. | Physics & IS | Junior / Senior Secondary | 1.5 hours
|
23. | Message from Your Heart | Beating of our hearts keeps us alive, and it never takes a break or a holiday from its work. Heartbeats are triggered by intrinsic stimulations, which can be detected through electrical signals, and they generate standard waveforms in electrocardiograms (ECG). In the workshop, students will learn to read a normal ECG waveform and generate their own ECG monitoring device using micro:bit and Excel. | Biology | Junior / Senior Secondary | 1.5 hours |
24. | Semi-radiography Art | X-ray radiography is a well-known technology in “seeing-through” internal objects from the outside, which is commonly used in security imaging and microscopies such as teeth imaging and organ imaging. In the workshop, students will generate an image that mimics X-ray radiography and can turn it into an artwork with their creativity. (To protect students from high-energy radiation, LED light will be used as a light source instead of X-ray). | Biology | Junior / Senior Secondary | 1.5 hours |
25. | Locating in Darkness | In this workshop, students will learn about the speed of the sound wave and the principle of echolocation. Students will create a device to measure sound wave in the air and realize that sound wave travels at a constant speed in the air, then apply this property to create a device to measure distance with ultrasound. | Physics | Junior Secondary | 1.5 hours
|
26. | Generating Electricity
| In this workshop, students will learn about electromagnetic induction and the principle of generators. Students will also apply the principle to build a simple generator.
